Funeral services for Cheryl Smith Calhoun, 72, of Lufkin will be held Tuesday, January 13, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park. Cheryl passed away on January 4, 2026. She was born on February 11, 1953, and lived a life defined by love, curiosity, creativity, and deep devotion to her family.
Cheryl was the devoted wife and life partner of David Calhoun, with whom she shared 44 years of marriage. Together, they were partners in every sense of the word—building a life side by side both personally and professionally through their catering business, a venture that reflected Cheryl’s creativity, work ethic, and joy in bringing people together.
She was a loving mother to Adam Shocklee and his wife Mindy, Natalie Thornton and her husband Jay, and Luke Calhoun and his fiancée Spenser Housewright. Cheryl was a proud and cherished grandmother to Ivy Shocklee and fiancé Joey Polivka, Joseph Thornton, Riley Thornton, and Logan Flowers, each of whom brought her immense happiness, and would have been her soon to be grandchildren, Jackson Housewright and Luke Housewright. She also was blessed three years ago with the birth of her only great-grandchild, Iris Polivka.
She is also survived by her brother, Paul Smith and his wife Robyn, along with many extended family members and friends who will deeply miss her capacity for love, intelligence, and generous spirit.
Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents, Ivy and Geraldine Smith; her brother, David Smith; and her beloved best friend, Pat Lee.
A lifelong learner, Cheryl had a deep love for the arts and travel. She approached life with curiosity, always eager to learn, explore, and experience new things. Her kindness, empathy, and unwavering support will remain a lasting legacy to all who knew her.
Pallbearers will be Joseph Thornton, Riley Thornton, Mark Emmons, Nick Wade, Joey Polivka, and Brett Bailey.
Honorary pallbearers are David Paul Smith and Ryan Emmons.
