Cherrie L. Gay was born to my grandma Mable Payne in Massillon, Stark County, Ohio.
My aunt was a very sweet loving lady, she had a smile that would light up the room! I didn't know her growing up but I sure wish I did!
I could talk to her about anything and everything! She called me when I was in my 20's and said, “Hey, I'm your Aunt Cherrie”. She was living in Colorado at the time. She told me about her favorite football team, the Denver Broncos! She told me about her getting married to Uncle Blaine! She always said how proud she was of her boys and how much she loved them and her grandkids! We talked about her duck that liked to follow her around in the back yard in Texas! Her favorite story she liked to tell me about: I bought her an Indian doll and the airport took it apart, every inch of it!
I’m trying not to cry writing this. Her western drawl when she talks to me! We talked about her siblings, how I found a couple that no one knew where they were, to her first husband! She loved Uncle Blaine so much! I never got to visit her in Texas! If I needed advice I would ask her. She didn't judge; she would say, “I love you girl, don't change!” We talked about working on the family tree. She never got to hear how far back I got!
My sister was visiting from out of state and had never talked to our aunt. Me being silly like I am sometimes handed the phone to my sister and said say hey! She loved decorating her house for the holidays and couldn't wait for her boys and grandkids to come. She never ended a phone call or email by saying bye, it was I love you, I love you more, I love you to the moon and always!
