Services and entombment for Charles “Sonny” Crenshaw, 76, of Lufkin will be held Saturday, June 9, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park Sunset Mausoleum with Brother Bobby Whisenant officiating.
Mr. Crenshaw was born October 4, 1941 in Albany, Georgia to the late Lois (Stone) and Charles Lynwood Crenshaw, and died Tuesday, June 5, 2018 in a local hospital.
Mr. Crenshaw had resided in Lufkin for over 40 years. He attended Allen Military Academy his Senior year of high school and first year of college and was the top cadet in his class, attaining the rank of Cadet Colonel. He also attended Northwestern University. He was a Pipeline Inspector and Heavy Equipment Operator retiring after more than 38 years of service at Texas Eastern Pipeline. Mr. Crenshaw was an accomplished athlete in high school playing football and baseball. He loved to dance and enjoyed deer and dove hunting with his father. He was a private gun dealer specializing in pre-1964 Winchesters. At the time, he was one of the largest dealers in Texas and Cabella’s was his biggest buyer. In his retirement, he enjoyed meeting with the men in Central every morning for coffee. Mr. Crenshaw was a loving husband, father and grandfather who adored his wife and family.
Survivors include his son, Richard Crenshaw and wife Jo Ellen of Lufkin; grandsons, Lawson Crenshaw and Liam Crenshaw, both of Lufkin; and a number of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 53 years, Jean Crenshaw.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jayme Shelton, C.J. Shelton, Lee Hall, Scott Cross, Brady McMillon, Kris Whisenant, Jamie Hopper and Lt. Colonel Lance Vann.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Hudson Middle School Angel Tree Fund, 6735 Ted Trout Drive, Lufkin, Texas 75904.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday evening at Carroway Funeral Home.
