Funeral services for Charles Edward DiStefano, 69, of Lufkin will be held Thursday, June 14, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. John W. Greene and Fr. Hank Lanik officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.
Mr. DiStefano was born April 13, 1949 in Lufkin, Texas to the late Lena (Scalise) and Peter DiStefano, and died Saturday June 9, 2018 in a local hospital.
Mr. DiStefano had resided in Lufkin all of his life. He served his country in the United States Army for two years during the Vietnam Era, spending one year in Korea. He attended Angelina College and received an Associate of Applied Science degree in Drafting. He was employed with Lufkin Industries for 25 years, Abitibi Paper Mill for 10 years, and Angelina College for 14 years.
Mr. DiStefano enjoyed fishing anywhere anytime. He enjoyed being around and on the water. He was known as Mr. Fix-It. Many called upon him regularly. He was eager to help friends, neighbors, and family. Time with family was precious to him. It was not uncommon for he and Sandra to make the drive to Longview for Kristopher and Kaitlyn’s activities. Having Hank and Hoyt close by has been a blessing. He was proud of his children and grandchildren, and they were so proud of him.
Mr. DiStefano’s faith journey was a harmonious blend of the Catholic faith as well as the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra DiStefano of Lufkin; son, Scott DiStefano and wife Kristi of Longview; daughter, Angela Johnson and husband Casey of Huntington; grandchildren, Kristopher DiStefano, Kaitlyn DiStefano, Hank Johnson, and Hoyt Johnson; brothers, Joseph DiStefano and wife Linda Loretta of Lufkin and Ron DiStefano and wife Debra of Nacogdoches; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents and mother-in-law and father-in-law.
Pallbearers will be Vincent DiStefano, Michael Crain, Gary Selman, Joe Montalbano, Gary Latham, and Jack Jordon.
Honorary pallbearers will be Larry James, Travis Latham, and Bobby Lovett.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Patrick Catholic School, 2118 Lowry Street, Lufkin, Texas 75901.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the Oncology Department of M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
