Funeral services for Carolyn Lynn Nerren Getro, 74, of Lufkin will be held Monday, August 31, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with Brother Larry Staggs officiating. Interment will follow at Berry Cemetery.
Mrs. Getro was born September 6, 1951 in Lufkin, Texas to the late Gladys Aretha (Spears) and Norris William Nerren, and died Wednesday, August 26, 2026 at her residence. She was a lifetime resident of Lufkin.
She loved Baseball! She was an avid Houston Astros fan as of late but also liked the Texas Rangers. Most of her life she was a homemaker and gardener, and a fabulous quilter. At one time, she had a large garden and tended to it actively. She was always active in her church, Mt. Zion Baptist Church, and loved the Lord deeply. She was an amazing cook. She made the best purple hull peas, chicken and dumplings, any comfort food really, and wouldn't use a measuring cup to save her life. It will make it difficult to replicate her cooking for the family in the future, but we will lovingly remember the comfort it brought. She loved her family and put them first in her life.
Survivors include her husband of 54 years, James Garry Getro of Lufkin; daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Steve Knight of Huntington; sons and daughters-in-law, Scott and Vivian Getro of Richmond, and Jamie and Shelli Getro of Lufkin; grandchildren, Adam Stepherson, Jacob Justus, Shelby Justus, Stormi Getro, Brandon Getro, and Raven Getro; great-grandchildren, Conner Getro, Ivy Justus, and Luke Justus; sister, Glenda Daniel of Lufkin; sister-in-law, Frances Nerren of Lufkin; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Zachary Stepherson; and brothers and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Jerry Ann Nerren, Wayne Nerren, and Donnis Nerren.
Pallbearers will be Adam Stepherson, Brandon Getro, Jacob Justus, Joshua Griffin, Brent Jones, and Jasson Jones.
Honorary pallbearers will be Randall Craft and Phillip Landers.
Memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 4303 FM 842, Lufkin, Texas 75901, or a charity of your choice.
