Butch Taylor

Funeral services for Robert Lindsay “Butch” Taylor, 85, of Lufkin will be held Sunday, August 4, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Mark A. Newton officiating. Interment will follow in Simpson Cemetery, Pollok, Texas.

Butch was born October 8, 1938 in Lufkin, Texas and died Wednesday, July 31, 2024 in a local hospice facility. He was the oldest child born to Lola Will (Powell) and Robert Lancaster Taylor.

Butch grew up in Lufkin and was a member of the Lufkin High School Class of 1957. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1957 and served until 1960, stationed in Germany in the 3rd Armored Division. Upon his return he joined his father and uncles in the family business, Taylor Bros. Painting & Floor Covering, until he retired as President of the company in 2010.

Butch is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mary Jo (Joseph) Taylor; sons and daughters-in-law, Lindsay and Garion Taylor, Randall and Cinda Taylor, all of Lufkin; and grandchildren, Zach Taylor and wife Gemma Sookprasong of Arlington, Jay Taylor of Austin, Wes Taylor and wife Sarah of Lufkin, and Mollie Meagher and husband Matt of New York, NY. He is also survived by sisters-in-law, Janet Taylor and Sue Joseph; and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

Butch was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Bill Taylor and Joseph Taylor; and brothers-in-law, A.C. Luce and Edward Joseph.

Pallbearers are Zach Taylor, Wes Taylor, Jay Taylor, Matt Meagher, Matt Taylor, Leslie Joseph, Lee Slaughter, and Jimmy Bonner.

Honorary pallbearers are John Bonner, John Lee Slaughter, Jim Alexander, Scott Taylor, Mike Taylor, and Jeff Taylor.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church Lufkin Building Fund, 106 E. Bremond Avenue, Lufkin, Texas 75901 or Hospice in the Pines, 1504 W. Frank Avenue, Lufkin, Texas 75904.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Saturday evening at the funeral home.
