Bobbye Lou Bartlett

March 16, 1927 — April 22, 2017

Memorial services for Bobbye Lou Bartlett, 90, of Lufkin will be held Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in the Henderson Chapel of Lufkin First United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Jerome Brimmage and Pastor Laura Campbell officiating.

Mrs. Bartlett was born March 16, 1927 in Lufkin, Texas to the late Sally (Coward) and Robert Harrison York, and died Saturday, April 22, 2017 in a local hospital.

A lifelong member of Lufkin’s First United Methodist Church, Bobbye’s first love was her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was always at the beckon call of her church and loved giving her time in its behalf. Adept at putting her stove through the paces, Bobbye was an amazing cook. From her all-bran rolls, to pan seared backstrap to pineapple upside down cake, few could best her in the kitchen. Family always gathered around her dining table and were always left contently full and with a smile.  A talent with a sewing machine, she made many of her children’s clothes, and was always on point to customize her husband, Ernest’s, hunting wear to meet his particular needs. Many a Lufkin woman carried one of her handcrafted, monogrammed purses. Bobbye rarely slowed to rest. When not tending to the needs of her children, grandchildren or husband, she loved to play golf and exercise around the neighborhood, walking briskly with her group others dubbed the “walkie talkies”.  She was never far from a bridge game with her friends, and always relished her turn to host the regular gathering. Challenging her in a game of “dirty dog” or “shanghai” always risked a sound defeat. Bobbye relished serving others, and in that itself was her reward. Her family and friends always came before her own needs, an extraordinarily giving woman. Rarely was a smile away from her lips, and laughing with tears streaming down her face was a frequent blessing. Bobbye could always be counted upon for a warm greeting and the occasional quick witted nudge by anyone she encountered. She was a blessing to all who knew her. She will be missed.

Survivors include her sons and daughter-in-law, Bill Bartlett, Ben and Hollie Bartlett, all of Lufkin; daughter and son-in-law, Sally and Ron Reasor of Arlington; grandchildren and spouses, Sabrina and Duane Utter, Eva and John Spera, Jay Bartlett, Jason and Susan Reasor, Scott and Kacy Reasor, Madison Bartlett and Alli Bartlett; 13 great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces, Steve Roper and wife Sherry, Gay Parker and husband Ray, Danny Roper, all of Lufkin, and Sara Sosnowy of New York, New York; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dan and Josie Spivey of Lufkin; and numerous other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ernest L. Bartlett, Jr.; and sisters, Sarah Roper and Laura York.
