Billy Paul Rawls

Visitation for Billy Paul Rawls, 85, of Lufkin will be held Monday June 12, 2023 at Carroway Funeral Home beginning at 6:00 p.m. Graveside memorial services will be held Tuesday June 13, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at the Whitehouse Cemetery in Lufkin, Texas.

Billy Paul was born August 1, 1937 in Lufkin, Texas, and has resided in Lufkin his entire life - a graduate of Lufkin High School in 1956. Billy Paul and Mary Burrous had been childhood friends as both of their fathers worked together. Fast forward to 1957 and Billy Paul realized she was the love of his life, and married her in 1959. He served in the U.S. Army from November 1960 to November 1962, stationed at Fort Hood, Texas.

Billy Paul retired from Champion Paper after 32 years. Upon retirement he enjoyed spending time with his family, working in his garden, hunting, fishing and telling stories. Billy Paul loved his family and his Lord with all his heart.

Billy Paul is survived by his wife of almost 64 years, Mary Evelyn Burrous of Lufkin; daughter, Lou Rena Liles of Point Blank; son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth Ray and Angie Dawn Rawls of Godley; grandchildren, Toshia McKeon and her husband Damian McKeon of Leander, Christopher Byrd of Albany Oregon, Colton Rawls and his spouse Ashton Rawls of College Station, Macy Caranza and her husband Jacob Caranza of Lufkin, Gregory King and his wife Sunni King of Godley, and Jared Taylor of Godley. Billy Paul has also been blessed with 6 great-grandchildren – Sean and Darren McKeon of Leander, Allie and Kate Caranza of Lufkin, Brighton and Cheyenne King of Godley.

He was preceded in death by his father, Pinckney Rawls; mother, Rena Julie Rawls; brother, Clinton Rawls; and son, Paul Edmond Rawls.
