Billy H. Mead, 92, of Lufkin died Wednesday, September 16, 2020 at his residence. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Carroway Funeral Home.
Mr. Mead was born June 27, 1928 in Winthrop, Arkansas to the late Jamie (Dover) and Dewey Admiral Mead. He served in the U.S. Navy and along with his wife, Bonnie, owned and operated Christian Words and Works for 40 years. He was a member of Denman Avenue Baptist Church.
Billy’s life has been characterized by him and Bonnie as: Two lives, two families, three sons “each” brought together by God. God had a plan and Bonnie and Billy were open to follow. The journey took them around the world, full of joy, sadness, and struggles, but also fullness. They had no regrets but felt tested and challenged. But they always felt they had a great life. Billy was known to quote, Billy Graham in saying, “I don’t mind dying but I don’t like the process”.
Bonnie recalls Romans 14:7-9 (NKJV) : 7 For none of us lives to himself, and no one dies to himself. 8 For if we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. Therefore, whether we live or die, we are the Lord's. 9 For to this end Christ died and rose and lived again, that He might be Lord of both the dead and the living.
Billy and Bonnie acknowledged God as the giver of all good things and lived with the desire for their life together to be to the glory of God.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Bonnie (Biggs) Mead of Lufkin; sons, Stephen Mead of Maryland, Craig Mead, Reid Mead, both of Las Vegas, Nevada, Buck Crawford, Jr. of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Dirk Crawford and Drew Crawford, both of Lufkin; grandchildren, Nolan Crawford, Buck Crawford III, Logan Crawford, Lacey Crawford, and Austin Crawford; great-grandson, Levi Perry; brother, Kenneth Mead of Beaumont; and a number of other relatives.
