Funeral services for Billy Castleberry, 81, of Huntington will be held Saturday, November 9, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Huntington with Brother Jerry Wilson, pastor at Macedonia Baptist Church in Etoile, officiating. Interment will follow in the Huntington Oddfellows Cemetery.
Mr. Castleberry was born September 22, 1943 in Nacogdoches, Texas to the late Willie B. and Bonnie Lucille (Burnaman) Castleberry, and died Wednesday, November 6, 2024 at his residence.
As a child he lived in Ewing, Texas until moving to Huntington where he graduated high school in 1961. He attended Stephen F. Austin State University and was a member of Phi Delta Theta. After graduating SFA he served in the U.S. Army, serving two tours of duty in Vietnam, and while in service received a Purple Heart. Most of his life he resided in Huntington where he was a teacher for over 30 years, and also served as a Junior High principal. He loved the outdoors and spent much of his time on the family farm. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, shooting, and driving tractors.
Survivors include his wife, Claudia Castleberry of Huntington; son and daughter-in-law, Colin and Heather Castleberry of Crockett; granddaughter, Halleigh Castleberry of Crockett; and brother, John Castleberry of Grand Prairie.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Pallbearers will be Curtis Crawford, David Mathews, Tom Havard, Brant Summers, Perry Williams and Malcolm Arnold.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 1:00p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon at the funeral home.
