Bill Simpson

February 7, 1938 — April 5, 2025

Bill Simpson, 87, died unexpectedly and far too soon on April 5, 2025. It is with great sadness that his family announces his passing.

Bill was born in Zavalla, Texas in 1938 to Ester and Aubrey Simpson. He was a long-time resident of Lufkin, making strong community ties and connections through his consistent support of local businesses and residents. Bill endeavored to lend a helping hand whenever and wherever he could and was counted on by many in the community for fellowship and friendship. He was a proud business owner (Simpson Tire Company and Gillette Tire Distributors). He also volunteered his time and served as a leader throughout Angelina County to include the Angelina County Chamber of Commerce, the Angelina Water Supply Corporation, Angelina County Appraisal District, Land O’ Pines Dairy Company, Dunagan Warehouse Corporation, and the Gillette Tire Company in Milford, Michigan for many years. Bill enjoyed hobbies such as raising livestock and piloting a small private plane recreationally. He traveled regularly with a wonderful group of buddies always looking for friendly faces and great adventures. He was a man of faith and served his Lord in all he did. He enjoyed a good meal, a good story and the respite of family.

Despite having tragically lost his own parents at a young age, Bill built a family of many friends and loved ones for himself with his hard work and generous spirit.

He is preceded in death by his daughter, Janet Simpson Procter; and his brother, Melvin Simpson.

He shared sixty five years of his life with his wife, Elsie Simpson and is survived by her; son in law, John Procter of Tyler; grandson, Andrew Procter and his wife, Cora currently of Middletown, Maryland; granddaughter, Larkin Procter Hawkins and husband, Tee Hawkins, and great-grandchildren, Lily, Winnie, and Will Hawkins, all of Tyler; sister, Linda Grigsby and husband Don of Madisonville; and countless beloved nephews, including Aubrey Simpson.

Amongst all who knew him, Bill was known as a man of great humility, resounding good will and kindness; he leaves behind a legacy of giving to and caring for his neighbors and community.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 10, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor John Greene officiating. The family will welcome friends and loved ones prior to the service beginning at 1:00 p.m. A private burial will be held following the service.

Pallbearers will be John Procter, Andrew Procter, Todd Stracener, Kenny Myers, Jimmy Avera, Larry Glover, Aubrey Simpson, and Mark Hicks.

Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Jones, Milton Hudspeth, Franklin Spruiell, Roger Niemann, Mack Coward, and John Sloan.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Hospice in the Pines, 1504 W. Frank Avenue, Lufkin, Texas 75904 or to a charity of your choice.

Bill will be held with respect, admiration and love in the hearts of many.
