Betty Jean Johnston

Betty Jean Johnston, 86, of Lufkin died November 9, 2023, at home. Cremation arrangements were under the direction of Carroway Funeral Home.

Betty was born January 3, 1937, in Port Arthur, Texas. She resided in Nederland and Bridge City before moving to Lufkin, Texas.

A member of the Red Hussars, Betty graduated in 1955 from Thomas Jefferson High School in Port Arthur. Betty and Robert “Bob” Johnston married October 26, 1956, celebrating 66 years of marriage.

After Bob retired, Betty and Bob enjoyed traveling the US. An avid quilter, Betty hand quilted numerous quilts and wall hangings. Betty volunteered for Southeast Texas Hospice in Orange. In Lufkin, Betty sewed many items for the Veterans with the help of her husband Bob. She loved shopping with her best friend, Bobbye Bush.

Survivors include her 3 children, 5 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Zolive and Ellis Malin Sr.; sister, Helen Wingler; brothers, Ellis “Bud” Malin, Jr., Willie “Bill” Malin, Kenneth Malin; and husband, Bob Johnston.
