Betty Joe Sherman Johnson

A service to celebrate the life of Betty Joe Sherman Johnson, 90, of Arlington, Texas, formerly of Lufkin, Texas, will be held Sunday, May 7, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Philip Johnson and Paul Johnson officiating. Interment will be held in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park in Lufkin.

Betty was born January 22, 1927 in Corrigan, Texas to the late Alice (Fortune) Sherman and Claude James Sherman, and died Thursday, May 4, 2017 in Arlington, Texas.

Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, James Aden and Prissy Johnson of Arlington and Daniel L. and Sandra Johnson of Lufkin; grandchildren, Kim Johnson Moore of Arlington, Paul and Jere’ Johnson of Lufkin, and Philip and Beth Johnson of Lufkin; and great-grandchildren, Madelynn, Myles, Daniel, Philip H., David, Sarah Kate, and Julia.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elbert Johnson; parents; two twin sisters; twin brother, Jim Bob Sherman; and brother, Claude Sherman.

Betty loved the Lord, serving at First Baptist Church and Parkview Baptist Church for many years. Betty was a local East Texas artist and taught several students over the years from her local art studio. She described herself as a “people-person” and loved to spend time with loved ones while visiting, laughing and playing games. She also enjoyed cooking, gardening, and reminiscing with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Our “Meme” has passed on a rich and godly heritage to our family and all those whom she met.

Pallbearers will be Herb Sherman, Scott Sherman, Ron Sherman, Paul Johnson, Philip Johnson and Wes Sherman.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon prior to the service.
