Betty Nell Havard Halsell

Funeral services for Betty Nell Havard Halsell, 90, of Lufkin will be held Saturday, April 19, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Danny Cryer officiating. Interment will follow in the Whitehouse Cemetery.

Mrs. Halsell was born January 22, 1935 in Lufkin, Texas to the late Nellie Marie (Cryer) and William Winfred Havard, and died Wednesday, April 16, 2025 at her residence.

Betty lived most of her life in Lufkin. She had a passion for painting and was a true artist. Her husband owned and operated Halsell Small Engine Repair with his shop next door to their house. Many times Betty was found working as a mechanic in his shop. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. She will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to have known her. Betty was a member of First Assembly of God Church Lufkin.

Survivors include her daughters, Nelda Porter and husband Bobby, Jr. of Diboll, Ellan Bonham and husband Donnie of Fuller Springs; son, Richard Halsell of Fullers Springs; daughter-in-law, Sharon Halsell; grandchildren, Joshua Halsell, Mindy Lankford, April Halsell, Jeremiah Halsell, Christina Bonham, Cheyenne Todd; 13 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joe Nathan Halsell; son, Joe Carl Halsell; grandson, Donald “Bubba” Bonham; granddaughter, Molly Rose Porter; sister, Thelma Havard; and brother, Curtis Havard.

Pallbearers will be Joshua Halsell, Jeremiah Halsell, Matthew Halsell, Philip Halsell, Nathan Gresham, and  Easten Todd.

Honorary pallbearers will be Christopher Halsell and Kyle Halsell.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
