Mrs. Edwards was born May 29, 1939 in the Allentown Community of Angelina County, Texas to the late Sudie Mae (Lewis) and Tommie Ray Watson. She passed away Thursday, September 16, 2021 in Livingston, Texas.
Mrs. Edwards was a lifetime resident of Angelina County. She graduated from Central High School in 1957. She then attended Pineywoods Business School. Her most memorable job was working as a secretary for Mr. Eddie McFarland for many years. She really enjoyed working for Mr. McFarland and would speak of it often. After leaving that job she became a stay-at-home Mom and years later she became a registered child caregiver.
Once she became a grandmother she began taking care of her grandchildren, which she loved. She did a lot of fun things with them such as treasure hunts, Easter egg hunts, baking cookies, art projects, reading stories, and more. She enjoyed taking pictures of her family and friends and kept them in order and labeled in photo albums. Mrs. Edwards sang at church, weddings and funerals. She had been a member of the Gann Cemetery Association board. She loved browsing antique stores and collected many things through the years. She sent cards of encouragement to many people and always had a smile to share.
Mrs. Edwards attended Clawson Assembly of God most of her life and attended Lancewood Assembly of God for a time. She was very active in church. Through the years she taught Sunday School, children’s church and Missionettes, and hosted many memorable church get-togethers. She also did the church sign and bulletin board. She was a greeter and was well known for her fudge and “cake that won’t last”.
Mrs. Edwards loved to write poems and stories. At one time she was a regular contributor to the Lufkin Daily News. She was a loving wife and mother. She loved her family and church family.
Survivors include her children and their spouses, Malisa and Jason Thacker of Pollok, Jeff and Sheryl Edwards of Pollok; grandchildren and their spouses, Jessica Paulette of Pollok, Jared and Kaiti Edwards of Tyler, Jacob and Payton Edwards of Lufkin, Brayden Thacker and Cayden Thacker, both of Pollok; brother, Floyce Watson of Hudson; sister, Fayrene Cox of Lufkin; and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
