Betty Jean (Bird) Bryant

Memorial services for Betty Jean (Bird) Bryant, 93, of Lufkin will be held Tuesday, April 9, 2019 at 1:30 p.m. in the PineCrest Retirement Community Chapel with The Reverend Randall K. Green officiating. Memorial services will be held in Ohio at a later date.

Betty Jean (Bird) Bryant passed away Sunday, April 7, 2019 at her residence. She was born December 9, 1925 in Senecaville, Ohio, to the late Ada (Lepage) and Charles Clark Bird. She graduated from Senecaville Richland High School in 1943 as Valedictorian and entered White Cross School of Nursing in Columbus, Ohio later that same year. She graduated nursing school in 1946. She met her future husband Bill on a blind date and they were married June 8, 1947. Betty earned her BSN from McNeese State University and her MSN from UTMB School of nursing in Galveston, Texas. She graduated with honors from both and was a member of Sigma Theta Tau nursing sorority.

Betty was active in church, bridge, Medical Society, Rebecca, Eastern Star, and was one of the founding members of the DAR charter in Orange. She was an avid reader, loved working crossword puzzles, and was a very generous, kind Christian woman. She loved her family immensely and considered herself a very blessed woman.

Betty is survived by her daughter, Cathy Jean Splawn and husband Ray of Jasper; daughter-in-law, Lucia Bryant Smith and husband Greg of Richardson; five grandchildren, Bryant Smith, Patti Lofton and husband Reagan, John Havens and wife Michaela, Parker Havens Panik and husband Dean, William Walter Bryant IV and wife Chelly; and eight great-grandchildren, Aiden Lofton, Maggie Lofton, Isabeau Havens, Nola Havens, Willow Havens, William Walter Bryant V, Bella Bryant, and Beckett Bryant.

Betty is preceded in death by her son, William Walter Bryant III; and her daughter, Barbara Ann Havens.
