Funeral services for Betty Doris “Dot” Havard, 86, of Zavalla, will be held Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Huntington with Brother Jackson Colwell officiating. Interment will follow in the Concord Cemetery.
Mrs. Havard was born July 19, 1932, in San Augustine County, Texas, the daughter of the late Iletha Laverne (Smith) and William Carroll Evans. She died Friday, November 30, 2018 at her residence.
Mrs. Havard had resided in Zavalla most of her life and was a former resident of the Oak Grove Community. She was a Traditional Mother who cared for any child who came into her life. She enjoyed driving a school bus for Zavalla I.S.D. As a young lady still in school, she flipped burgers in Beaumont in the summers to buy school clothes for her siblings. As a child, she began picking cotton when the bag was much bigger than she was. She was a country girl who knew how to make do. She once drove herself to the hospital in Jasper in a standard transmission Scout with her injured foot in a bucket of ice. She was always cheerful, and her laugh could be heard a mile away.
Survivors include her four daughters and sons-in-law, Betty Ann and Randall Thompson of Silsbee, Jerline and Ralph Aldis of Bergheim, Peggy and Steve Soza of Westport, California, and Sabrina Havard of Zavalla; grandchildren, Johnny Taylor and wife Charlene of Katy, Ryan Thompson of Silsbee, Patrick Aldis of Bergheim, Shyanne Aldis of New York, and Summer Aldis of Bergheim; six great grandchildren; numerous other relatives; her beloved chihuahua, Honey Bear; and “grand pups,” Lucien, Samantha, and Salena.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Virgil Evans Havard; two brothers; and two sisters.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home in Huntington.
