Bessie "Scooter" Richard

Funeral services for Bessie “Scooter” Richard, 73, of Pollok will be held Thursday, December 28, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother John Williams officiating. Interment will follow in the Gann Cemetery.

Scooter was born February 19, 1944 in Angelina County, Texas to Lois Dees Thompson and the late Jim Bob Thompson, and left this earth Saturday, December 23, 2017 in a local facility.

Scooter was retired from the Lufkin Federal Credit Union, where she worked for several years. She loved to cook and was always trying new recipes from her favorite cooking channels. Scooter loved her husband, daughter and family dearly.

Survivors include her loving husband of 15 years, David L. Richard, of Huntington, who never left her side during her illness; daughter, Kelly Cooper of Austin; stepchildren, Virginia Richard and James of Lufkin and David W. Richard and Wendi of Anaconda, Montana; mother, Lois Dees Thompson of Pollok; brother and sister-in-law, Bobby and Jana Thompson of Pollok; aunt, Jean Modisette of Pollok; special friend, Joyce Osburn; and numerous other family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father; daughter, Becky Cooper; brother, Frankie Thompson; grandparents, Walter Scott and Ella Pearl (Wilson) Thompson and Franklin M. and Hattie (Lovelady) Dees; step-grandmother, Coy Thompson; and step-grandfather, Bill Duren.

Pallbearers will be Collin Richard, Dustin Scott, Blake Wilson, Casey Wilson, Dennis Wilson, and Rogelio Venegas.

Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Thompson, David W. Richard, Timothy Dees, and Michael Turner.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. S. Karnati, Dr. M. Benitez, Huntington Health Care Facility, and Hospice in the Pines and their staff.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
