Benjamin Samuel Dunn

Funeral services for Benjamin Samuel Dunn, 36, of Huntsville, formerly of Lufkin, will be held Wednesday, February 28, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Jim Newton and Brother Robert Forrest officiating. Interment will follow in the Largent Cemetery.

Ben was born November 25, 1987 in Lufkin, Texas and died Friday, February 23, 2024 in a Houston hospital.

Ben served as a Correctional Officer for more than 12 years at the Estelle Unit of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. He is remembered by his family as a hard worker and known to have a sense of humor. He was one of a kind. They recall his ability to easily make friends and was well liked. Ben was a strong, brave man and he fought a courageous battle with cancer. “There will never be another Ben Dunn.”

Survivors include his parents, Kirk and Robin Dunn of Lufkin; mother, Tammy Dunn of New York; wife, Ashley Dunn of Huntsville; brothers, Chris Dunn of Lufkin, Jeramy Nichols of Navasota, Jason Nichols and wife Candace of Huntington; niece, Makayla Nichols; nephew, Cooper Nichols; aunts and uncles, Nita and Steve Currie of Lufkin, Becky and Brad Grammer, David Black, all of Henderson, Mark Black of Witching, Kansas, Gail and Pete Thompson, Brenda McClendon, all of Pollok, Doug and Jennifer Nichols of Brenham; and numerous cousins and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, George and Hilda Dunn, Linda (Black) and  Sam Cochran, Doug and Johnnie Nichols; and aunt and uncle, Teresa and Edward Hollis.

Pallbearers will be Nolan May, David May, David Black, Mark Black, Jason Nichols, and Patrick Largent.

Honorary pallbearers will be Aaron Glick, Nick May, Jeramy Nichols, and Chris Dunn.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
