Funeral services for Barbara Ann Prater, 76, of Elkhart, formerly of Lufkin, will be held Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Clayton Douglas and Pastor Mark Wise officiating. Interment will follow in the Largent Cemetery.
Ms. Prater was born February 28, 1941 in Anderson County, Texas to the late Ida Leola (Newman) and Tobias Hamilton Coslett, and died Saturday, January 13, 2018 in Palestine.
Ms. Prater earned her Associates of Art and Applied Science Degree in Human Services - Substance Abuse from Angelina College. She was a licensed chemical dependence counselor who devoted her life and energy to helping lost addicts and alcoholics find their way. Ms. Prater was also instrumental in bringing The Most Excellent Way to Lufkin. Numerous lives have been changed thanks to her. She was a member of Christ Kingdom Church in Elkhart.
Survivors include her daughters and son-in-law, Robin Franklin of Elkhart and Rhonda Gayle and Mike Alexander of Palestine; son, William Randall Prater of Elkhart; grandchildren and spouses, Neeli and Brian Hall of Palestine, Jennifer Jon Holliday of Lufkin, Dustin Paul and Jamie Holliday of Tyler, Charles Franklin of Odessa, Rachael Wright of Palestine, Randi Prater of Elkhart, Haily and Austin Long of Dallas, and Krystal Brown of Chireno; and great-grandchildren, Jonathan Paul Holliday, Wyatt Kolb, Haylee Brown, Baylee Brown, all of Lufkin, Katlin Hall, Slade Hall, both of Elkhart, Ana Holliday, Brayden Hogue, both of Tyler, Eedan Brown, Zander Nix, Ella Brown, and Emma Brown, all of Chireno, Michael Boyd, Logan Boyd, Lane Williams, Nathaniel Boyd, all of Elkhart, Allianz Long, Gracie Long, and Ryland Long, all of Dallas.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William Ouintin Prater; and granddaughter, Ana Daniel Franklin.Tuesday, January 16, 2018
