Graveside services for Barbara Jean Conner of Lufkin will be held Monday, September 16, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at Whitehouse Cemetery with Pastor Charles M. Roberts and Pastor Ron Meadows officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. Monday morning prior to the services.
Barbara Jean Conner, age 87, passed away at home Friday, September 13, 2024, in Lufkin, Texas. Barbara was born May 22, 1937 in Oakwood, Texas, Freestone County, to Asa Alonzo and Mattie Cleo (Lambert) Stroud.
Barbara attended Fairfield High School, and was a member of the school band, and played tenor saxophone.
She married Dalton Conner in 1953 and moved to Lufkin in 1957. She worked at B & B Tackle, making fishing lures for 20 years and retired in 2009 with the Lufkin School District. She loved children and worked in childcare for many years. She was a member of Denman Avenue Baptist Church since 1958 and taught in the youth department, college and career and served in the nursery.
Barbara is survived by children and grandchildren, Cheryl Conner, Lillie Conner Horton, Joey Horton, Deborah and Troy Miedema, David and Talisha Long, Jake and Emily Miedema, Lillie Miedema, Anne Miedema, Bryce Long and Chrissy Conner; sister, Margie Hugdahl; brother, A.J. Stroud; sister-in- law, Patsy Stroud; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers will be Bruce Howard, David Long, Troy Miedema, Bryce Long, Jake Miedema and Joey Horton.
Special friends: Wayne Haglund, Gayle Chandler, Gerald and Johnnie Glover, Seale Brand and caregiver, Vickie Mettlen
Preceded in death by her parents, Alonzo and Cleo Stroud; husband, Dalton Conner; son, Ricky Conner; brothers, Wiley Stroud and Charles Stroud; sisters-in-law, Doris Stroud and Patsy Stroud; and brothers-in-law, Harold Hugdahl and Gene Howard.
