Avery Higgins

Funeral services for Avery Higgins, 84, of Wells, will be held Monday, April 29, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Wells with Brother Wesley Matchett officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery.

Mr. Higgins was born September 26, 1934 in the Appleby Community of Nacogdoches, Texas, the son of the late Nezzie Ruth (Broach) and C.W. Higgins.  He died Thursday, April 25, 2019 in a Nacogdoches hospital.

Mr. Higgins was a former longtime resident of Brazoria and was retired from Dow Chemical Company following 27 years of service. He has lived in Wells for the past 25 years.  Mr. Higgins was a member of the First Baptist Church of Wells where he also had served as a Deacon. He loved gardening, fishing, and hunting.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Kattie Higgins of Wells; three sons, Richard Higgins, Brian Higgins, both of Wells, and Gregory Higgins and wife Karen of Lufkin; granddaughter, Jada Higgins; great granddaughters, Isabella Anderson and Madelyn Ferguson; sisters, Bobbie Thompson of Central and Carol Wood of Angleton; brothers, Larry Higgins and wife Carolyn of Troup, Tommy Higgins and wife Doris of Pollok; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law, W.S. and Jo Lott; and sister, Rosemary (Higgins) Sessions.

Pallbearers will be Kyle Hopper, Kelly Collins, Keith Jackson, Gordon Cole, Jerry McKnight and Ricky Bobbitt.  Honorary pallbearers are Carol Wilbur Smith and Alton Morris.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Church Building Fund, First Baptist Church of Wells, P.O. Box 491, Wells, Texas 75976.

The family will receive friends and loved ones from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon at the funeral home.
