Aurelia Northcutt Newton of Lufkin, Texas, passed away peacefully at The Joseph House in Lufkin Tuesday, September 15, 2026 after a courageous battle with Early Onset Alzheimer’s Disease. Aurelia was born on April 11, 1967, at Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview, Texas to Cassandra (Cobb) and Joseph LeGrande Northcutt. Aurelia was a 6th generation native of Longview and a proud Lobo. Her parents instilled in Aurelia and her older brother, Gordon, a love and commitment to family, faith, friends, and community. Aurelia made her profession of faith in Christ and was baptized at First Baptist Church Longview at the young age of seven. As a child and teenager Aurelia was actively involved in all children’s and youth ministries at the church. As a preteen, you could find Aurelia in the church kitchen on Wednesday nights helping cook and serve – a place you could find her for years to come. Aurelia graduated from Longview High School in 1985. Aurelia’s parents were both graduates of Baylor University, and from birth Aurelia attended many Baylor events, thus there was never any question where she would attend college. Since her mother graduated from Baylor in three years, Aurelia decided to use her mom’s unused year and stayed at Baylor for five years. After changing her major at least four times, Aurelia graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Family and Consumer Sciences in 1990. Aurelia loved the Baylor Bears and her many Baylor friends.

Aurelia met her future husband on a blind date in 1988, and both knew from the first date that this was the one! Mark and Aurelia were married October 6, 1990, at First Baptist Church Longview. For almost forty years, Mark and Aurelia served as pastor and pastor’s wife to five amazing churches – First Baptist Church of Chilton, First Baptist Church of McGregor, Baptist Temple Church in San Antonio, First Baptist Church of San Marcos, and First Baptist Church of Lufkin. While each church would agree that they called Mark to be their pastor, the best part of the deal was getting Aurelia! Aurelia loved being a pastor’s wife and served every church with great humility, passion, vision, joy and love. She did not seek any recognition but always worked behind the scenes – usually in the church kitchen, on mission endeavors, and was always looking for ways to love and help the “least of these.” Aurelia never sat in the same pew in any church on any given Sunday but always sought out a visitor, someone sitting by themselves, or someone she knew was dealing with a difficulty.

As scripture teaches, Aurelia loved God with all her heart, soul, mind, and strength, and most definitely loved each person she encountered. In San Marcos, Aurelia founded and organized School Fuel - a weekend feeding program for elementary school children. Likewise, in Lufkin she inspired the founding of Second Sacks/Second Helpings with the same desire. This weekend in San Marcos Independent School District and the Lufkin Independent School District over 2,600 sacks of food will go home with children thanks to Aurelia’s vision and passion.

While Aurelia loved serving the church and her community, her greatest joy was her family. Her children, Adolynn and Truett, were born in 1995 and 1997 and from then on, she added many new titles to her resume. She was a room mom, PTA president, athletic booster, concession stand queen, and always the loudest cheerleader in the bleachers. Aurelia’s calling in life was serving as a devoted wife to Mark, mom to Adolynn and Truett, daughter and daughter-in-law, sister and sister-in-law, and most recently, ReRe to her grandkids, Cassie Jo, Tate, and Worth.

Aurelia is survived by her husband, Mark Newton; her daughter, Adolynn Newton Williams and husband, Zach; her son, Truett Joseph Newton and wife Grace; her grandchildren, Cassie Jo Williams, Tate Joseph Newton, and Worth Zachary Williams; her brother, Gordon Northcutt and wife, Ginia; her sister-in-law, Carolyn Newton Stephens; brother-in-law, Steve Newton and wife Helen; sister-in-law, Becky Newton Grimes and husband Ted; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, LeGrande and Cassandra Northcutt, and her parents-in-law, Douglas and Jo Newton.

Serving as pallbearers are Max Alvis, Jeff Chance, Cody Dailey, Curt Fenley, Hall Henderson, Neal Knighton, John Lassitter, and Sid Roberts.
