Audie M. Piper

October 4, 1929 — May 26, 2019

Funeral services for Audie Mae Wideman Piper, 89, of Lufkin will be held Thursday, May 30, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Linley “Link” Ham officiating. Interment will follow in the Whitehouse Cemetery, where she served on the Association’s Board.

After a lengthy illness, Audie went home to meet her Lord on May 26, 2019.   She is survived by her husband, Robert Piper; son, Linley “Link” John Ham and wife Brenda; daughter, Jeri Lynn Ham Dulaney and husband John; son-in-law, Gene Cherry; and a stepson, Richard Piper and wife Missy.  Also, she is survived by a brother, Ronald Gene Wideman and wife Janis; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A daughter, Patricia Ham Cherry, preceded her in death as did her parents, Norris and Cecil Wideman; brother, Bobby Ned Wideman; sister, Billie Marie Wideman Johnson; and brothers, Horris and Morris Wideman.

Audie was born on October 4, 1929, at home in Lufkin, Texas. She lived in Oklahoma for several years but returned to Texas and finally to Lufkin. She attended Concord Baptist Church in Zavalla while her son was the Pastor. She worked at various restaurants, furniture stores, and was a demonstrator at grocery stores. She enjoyed the friendship and competition with the other ladies at TOPS weight watchers even though she lost the same 10 pounds more than once.

Audie enjoyed traveling and shopping. Each Christmas she had gifts for her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, neighbors, and friends. Christmas Eve was always very special at Meme’s house.

Audie made everyone feel welcomed and loved. Even though she was sick for many years, if you asked how she was doing, she would always reply, “I’m fine.” She was unwilling to allow sickness to dominate her spirit.  She wasn’t perfect, in fact, some would say she was ornery, but she was the glue that held the family together.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Dr. Brent Campbell who was like a son to Audie, and who gave us the precious gift of time.

Pallbearers will be Richard Piper, John Dulaney, Matt Thornton, John Ham, Keith Wideman, and Michael Smith.

Memorial contributions may be made to Whitehouse Cemetery, P.O. Box 1283, Lufkin, Texas 75901.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. Thursday morning prior to the service at the funeral home.

Memories and condolences may be added, and live webcasting of the services may be viewed at www.carrowayfuneralhome.com.
