Arthur Earl Winthrop

Funeral services for Arthur Earl Winthrop, 72, of Crystal Beach, formerly of Lufkin, will be held Saturday, January 20, 2018 at 1:30 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Daniel Neal and Chris Pallitto officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.

Mr. Winthrop was born March 26, 1945 in Lufkin, Texas to the late Fannie (Smith) and Archie Winthrop, and died Sunday, January 14, 2018 at his residence.

Mr. Winthrop grew up in Lufkin and attended and graduated from Redland High School. While in high school he married Angela Trevathan and enjoyed 20 years as a devoted husband and father. After high school he joined the U.S. Navy and served six years during the Vietnam War. He proudly served aboard the aircraft carriers USS Hornet and USS Yorktown. He was also involved in the recovery of several space capsules during the early stages of the Space Program. Mr. Winthrop was in the scrap metal and recycling industry.

Mr. Winthrop met and married Barbara in 1986. Their blended families brought a lifetime of happiness and many wonderful grandchildren who were the loves of his life. His desire to retire and live at the beach was fulfilled in 2012. He has enjoyed many days in the sun, sand, and waters of Crystal Beach, Texas. He will be missed by many. He loved the Lord and is with Him now enjoying everything He promised. “See ya’ later kid.”

Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Barbara (Owens) Winthrop; daughters and sons-in-law, Cherri and Frank Starr, Suzette and Jason Montes, and Darla Wilson; sons and daughter-in-law, Allison Gibson, Eric Winthrop, and John and Robin Gibson; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Wanda and Bobby Dennis; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and ten brothers and sisters.

Pallbearers will be his family.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon prior to the services.
