Memorial services with Military Honors for Anita Reneé Seago, 76, of Corrigan will be held Friday, April 11, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. in the First Baptist Church Corrigan Family Life Center with Brother Gary Forrest and Brother Lesly Wilkinson officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Carroway Funeral Home.
Mrs. Seago was born on February 20, 1949 in Texas City, Texas to the late Robert Joseph Rake and Betty Jean Todd, and died Friday, April 4, 2025 in Houston, Texas.
Reneé attended Corrigan High School, and was very active in several roles, none more important to her than The Bulldog Marching Band, and the jazz ensemble they formed. She earned the title of Band President and editor of The Blue Quill her Senior year, before graduating in 1967. It was there, at Corrigan where she first met Robert Harold late in their 8th grade year.
Immediately following high school graduation, Reneé enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, training in Parris Island, South Carolina. Her love for this great country never faltered, and if she ever saw a flag not hanging gracefully, she would quickly instruct (not ask) you to fix it because, as she explained, “that’s my flag!” She proudly served her country, earning the rank of Sergeant, 1967-1970.
Reneé returned to Lufkin after the military and pursued her dream of becoming a teacher. She earned an Associate’s degree from Angelina College in 1977, followed immediately by her Bachelor's of Art from Stephen F. Austin State University, then a Masters of Education in counseling also from SFASU, in 1994.
Reneé’s first teaching assignment was Junior English at Lufkin High School. Then, after moving to Corrigan in 1982, she taught Junior English at C-CHS. After acquiring her Master’s Degree, she assumed one of her most impactful roles as Counselor at C-C Primary. During her many years in education, she touched so many lives. She wasn't just a teacher to her students, she was also a mentor to any and everyone she needed to be, children and adults alike. She made sure that every student that entered the doorway of her classrooms, and the halls of her schools knew they mattered and that she truly cared about them. Over the years many, many students have reached out to her to tell her how much she meant to them and how she changed their lives.
Reneé and Harold rekindled their high school relationship and were married in 1982. They lived in Corrigan, purchasing "The Place" where they remained throughout the rest of her life. The Place was her sanctuary, her little piece of Heaven, earth-side. She loved the peacefulness and quiet that she found there. Surrounded by nature, she kept all of the critters well fed- the deer, squirrels, and birds...oh, so many birds.
Reneé was a voracious reader and a lifelong devoted Christian, always reminding us to pray when we sought her counsel for life's struggles. She was an avid photographer for many years as well, compiling a large collection of family memories. She was a talented artist, not only drawing and painting, but arranging special pieces with her touch of eclectic charm. She loved to travel and was fortunate to see many of God’s wonderful creations along the way. There was nothing she loved more, nor more important to her, than family, and she made sure they knew it with every hug, kiss, text, and phone call she made.
