Graveside services with military honors for Andrew C. Porter, 99, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, formerly of Lufkin, will be held Wednesday, May 2, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park with Dr. Steven Prensner officiating.
Mr. Porter was born September 20, 1918 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to the late Mary (Leach) and Andrew Cuthbert Porter, and passed away Sunday, April 22, 2018 in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Mr. Porter was a native of Lufkin, Texas, and was an alumnus of Lufkin High School, the University of Texas and the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He was a veteran of World War II. He served as a Lead Navigator in the U.S. 8

B-17 Heavy Bomber Group based near Stowmarket,
England. He wore the Purple Heart for wounds received in action over Cognac, France, and he was selected for the Honor Flight program for World War II veterans.
He was former owner and CEO of A. C. Porter, Inc., Investment Bankers and Texas General Life Insurance Co., both in Houston, Texas. He also served as CEO of Professional Management and Marketing, Inc. and Coordinated Marketing, Inc., management and marketing consulting firms in Houston, Texas and Atlanta, Georgia. He was a past member of the Board of Directors of Sales and Marketing Executives, Atlanta, Georgia. He was named Outstanding Marketing Executive-of-the-Year by that organization and was a recipient of the Elbert Clemmons Award in 1976.
Mr. Porter had lived in Bainbridge, Georgia since his retirement in 1981 and until his 90
th
birthday. He was the former Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Southwest Georgia Regional Library and the Decatur County Library Board of Trustees. He was a member of both boards for 9 years. He was past President of the Decatur County Historical Society and past President of the Bainbridge Rotary Club. He was a former member of the Board of Directors of the Decatur County United Way and the Board of Trustees, of the Bainbridge College Foundation.
In 2010 Mr. Porter moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado, and he resided there until his passing on April 22, 2018. He is survived by his two daughters, Melanie Prensner of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Andrea Lynn Morie of Atlanta, Georgia; a son, Andrew C. Porter, Jr. of Austin, Texas; six grandsons; four great-grandchildren; one niece and one nephew; and five grandnieces and one grandnephew.
