Memorial services for Alta Ruthe Jack, 89, of Lufkin will be held Saturday, April 28, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with a reception following in the Carroway Family Reception Room. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Carroway Funeral Home.

Mrs. Jack was born February 17, 1936 in Beirut, Lebanon to the late Ruthe Marie (Hamon) and Lester Alton Crose, and died Monday, February 2, 2026 in Lufkin, Texas. As a child of missionaries, she lived in several countries when young, most notably Lebanon, Barbados, and Egypt. She taught school in several states, including 21 years at Lake Wales High School in Lake Wales, Florida, and an additional five years at Warner Southern College (now Warner University) in Lake Wales before retiring. She and her husband served as missionaries in retirement, with multiple long assignments in Kima, Kenya. She was a member of the Church of God (Anderson, Indiana) denomination for most of her life. She lived in Lufkin for the last 5 years and was a member of First United Methodist Church in Lufkin during this time.

Survivors include her husband of 70 years, Ronald Merle “Ron” Jack of Lufkin; daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Greg Bondurant of Auburndale, Florida; son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Barbara Jack of Lufkin, Texas; daughter, Shelly Wood of Ormond Beach, Florida; grandchildren and spouses, Elizabeth and Tommy Mulling, Robby and Caitlyn Bondurant, Ruthe and Tim Myers, Josh Jack, Katie Jack, and Maggie Wood; nine great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Jesse Jack of Angels Camp, California; sister-in-law, Dixie Crose of Mooresville, Indiana; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, John Crose; and great-granddaughter, Olivia Ruthe Myers.

The family wishes to thank the staff at PineCrest Retirement Community for their care of Alta Ruthe in recent years, and the staff of Gentiva Hospice, particularly Kim Warner, for their care and support over the last year.
