Alberta "Bertie" Grider

Funeral services for Alberta “Bertie” Grider, 93, of Lufkin will be held Saturday, December 23, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Bryan Lipscomb officiating. Interment will follow in the Oddfellows Cemetery.
Mrs. Grider was born October 11, 1924 in Orange, Texas to the late Louis Emille and Ophelia Mary Turpin, and passed away Thursday, December 21, 2017 in Lufkin.
Mrs. Grider was a loving daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She had a great many dear friends, most of those sweet people have gone on before her.
Mrs. Grider retired from Memorial Hospital in Lufkin in 1990. After retirement she worked in the offices of Drs. Malladi and Reddy for five years, and also enjoyed traveling with her friends.
She is survived by three of her four children and their spouses, John M. and Tommie Grider of Lufkin, Clay and Christine Grider of Spring, and Sharon and Oscar Crawford of Hudson; nine grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren; and special friend, Kim Thomas.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her youngest child, a son, Stewart Lee Grider on January 10, 1992; three brothers and sisters-in-law; and four sisters and brothers-in-law.
Her church family at Providence Baptist Church has been a source of friendship and comfort for over 59 years. Many of her dearest friends are, or were, in her Sunday School class at Providence.
Pallbearers will be Jared Grider, Lucas Grider, Blake Grider, Cary Grider, Brent Grider, Tyler Innerarity, Tristan Innerarity, and Drew Florey.
Honorary pallbearers will be Todd Florey, Rick McAdoo, and Ryan Hassell.
In lieu of flowers the family would like to request a loving donation to Hospice in the Pines, 1504 W. Frank Street, Lufkin, Texas 75904. Their loving support and kindness has been a source of great comfort to the Grider family.
Bless all at Larkspur who so generously showed such kindness and care to our mother and to us as a family.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon prior to the service at the funeral home.
