Ada Jane Brooks passed away Saturday, September 30, 2023 at her home in Pollok, Texas. She was 69 years of age.

Visitation and Services will be held in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel Saturday, October 7, 2023. Visitation will start at 9:00 a.m. and services will begin at 10:00 a.m. with Tammy Simms officiating. A funeral procession to Old Union Cemetery will follow after the service.

Ada was preceded in death by her parents, Harold Oliver and Helen Grace (Wilson) McClendon; brother, Harold McClendon; and sister Anola “Pru” Brooks.

She is survived by her husband, Ernie Brooks; son, Tanner Brooks, wife, Michelle Brooks, and their two sons, Tristin Brooks and Landan Brooks;

son, Bryan Brooks, wife, Amanda Brooks, and their two daughters, Marlee Brooks and Preslee Brooks.

Ada was a loving wife of 49 years, an amazing mother of 44 years, and grandmother of 19 years. In that time, she always made sure everyone was loved and they knew how proud she was of them. She spent countless hours with her husband and two children. She seemed to never miss the chance to be there to show her support. This meant a lot of time spent at events like rodeos and baseball games. When the grandkids came along she and her husband never slowed down by making it to as many things as they could. Together they went to dance recitals, basketball, softball and baseball games, countless youth rodeos, and just spending as much time as they could.

Ada went to Leverett's Chapel School from Kindergarten to 12th grade. She played clarinet in the elementary and high school band, helping to win several marching contests and solo and ensemble contests. Her freshman year she was the class favorite and participated in the one act play. Her sophomore, junior and senior years she was a cheerleader and was on the volleyball team. The team went to state her senior year. She was salutatorian of her class. Her class went through as a tight knit group and after graduating she kept in touch with many of her friends.

Anyone that knew Ada knew that family was the most important thing in her life. She always loved whenever she could get a large group of loved ones to come together in one place on any occasion. Her love did not stop at the immediate family. Her heart was so big she decided to become a teacher. She graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University with a teaching degree and went to teach at Central ISD in Pollok, Texas. She taught in junior high then moved to elementary for many years. While teaching elementary school she realized that she wanted to share her love of books with young children. That is when she decided to go back to get her Masters in Library Science from Sam Houston State University.

She worked as a librarian for Central lSD, Hudson ISD, and then returned to Central ISD where she would retire from. Her retirement was short lived when she was offered a job at St. Cyprian’s Episcopal School to be over the library. She jumped at the chance to share her love of books once again with as many children for as long as she could. Ada remained at the school for a few years then decided to only work part time. She retired again but up until the time of her passing if they needed a substitute, she was glad to help out. It is hard to know how many thousands of lives she touched in her lifetime.

Pallbearers will be Travis Phillips, Cody McClendon, Jason Smith, Stacey Brooks, Roper Brooks, and Tre Jackson.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jay DeLaFosse and Roy Evans.
