Funeral services for AD Courtney will be held Wednesday, April 3, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Garden of Memories Memorial Park.
AD Courtney, a lifetime resident of Lufkin who served many years of his career as a medical records keeper at Memorial Hospital and who was a long-time member of the First Church of the Nazarene, died Tuesday, March 26, 2024. He was 95 years old.
AD was born August 21, 1928 in Lufkin, Texas and was the loving son of the late Hugh and Ollie (Weeks) Courtney.
He was an honor graduate from Lufkin High School and Stephen F. Austin State University, and his career included teaching medical records keeping at Temple College in Temple, Texas. As a member of the Church of the Nazarene, he served as treasurer and for many years he taught Sunday School. Consequently, he earned the church’s highest recognition for his service.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his brother and sister-in-law, Alfred Eugene “Buddy” Courtney and Martha (Childress) Courtney; and his brother, Horace Edward “Rusty” Courtney.
He is survived by four nieces; two nephews; and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Jim Masters, Gill Masters, Steve Mosley, and Joe Neil Jackson.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. Wednesday morning prior to the services.
