A. L. "Sonny" Denman

Funeral services for A.L. “Sonny” Denman, 87, of Lufkin will be held Friday, December 29, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Lamar Denby officiating. Interment will follow in the Sims (Rocky Hill) Cemetery.

Mr. Denman was born September 24, 1930 in Angelina County, Texas to the late James William and Margaret (Farris) Denman, and died Saturday, December 23, 2017 surrounded by family.

Mr. Denman had resided in Lufkin for more than 35 years and was a Diesel Mechanic for International Harvester for 30 years. He loved to fix things and he could cook a mean fish fry. He was an avid collector of clocks, cars, and lighthouses. He loved his children and grandchildren and thoroughly enjoyed family gatherings. He had a smile that could light up the room and he was also a great listener. Mr. Denman was a member of Highway Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Judith Denman of Lufkin; daughters, Mary Margaret Vest and husband Robert of Rosenberg, JoAnna Ringel and husband Carr of Corpus Christi, and Wendi Thornburgh and husband Steve of Nacogdoches; sons, Guy McElhaney and wife Machelle of Houston, Patrick McElhaney and wife Debra of Liberty City, Donny McElhaney and wife Vicky of San Augustine, and Ky McElhaney and wife Stephanie of Allen; 23 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sister, Ola Mae Gordon of Lufkin; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and six brothers and sisters.

Pallbearers will be Ky McElhaney, Guy McElhaney, Patrick McElhaney, Donny McElhaney, Sean McElhaney, Josh Thornburgh, Stuart McElhaney, and Carr Ringel.

Honorary pallbearers will be Steve Thornburgh, Sr., Steve Thornburgh, Jr., Robert Vest, and Justin Thornburgh.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.
