Virginia Powell Goodwin Smith

Funeral services for Virginia Powell Goodwin Smith, 79, of Wells, will be held Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Clayton McClendon officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Wells. Mrs. Smith was born April 26, 1938 in Apple Springs, Texas, the daughter of the late Minnie (Oliver) and Joe Conner Powell. She died Monday, September 25, 2017 in a Wells nursing facility. Mrs. Smith had resided in Wells most of her life. During her working career, she had worked for Plus-Tex and Wells Nursing Home. Virginia and her husband, Louis, enjoyed country living and lived off of the land. She enjoyed quilting, gardening and cooking, and was known to excel at anything she decided to do. She was of the Pentecostal faith. Survivors include her children and their spouses, Becky and Leroy Mooney of Etoile, Michael and Jennifer Goodwin of Wells, and Glenda and Bob Cole of Wells; grandchildren and their spouses, Wendy and Steven Johnson of Lufkin, Robert and Heather Mooney of Etoile, Kindle and James Schoubroek of Nacogdoches, Lisa and John Cannon of California, Heather and Daniel Montelongo of Hudson, Gregory and Sadie Goodwin of Huntington, Colton and Maria Goodwin of Wells, Zachary and Jennifer Acrey of Southport, NC, and Vicky Acrey of Wells; twelve great grandchildren; true friend and roommate, Trudy Taylor; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her parents; the father of her children, Louis Goodwin; husband, Delbert Smith; sisters, Lorene Oliver, Josie Campbell, and Kay Parker; and brothers, Everett Powell, Burt Powell, and Sidney Powell. The family will receive friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
