Funeral services for Paytria Janette (Scarborough) LaMar, 74, of Lufkin will be held Sunday, September 17, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. in the Bethel Assembly of God Church with Reverend S. W. Woodard officiating. Interment will follow in the Old Union Cemetery.
Mrs. LaMar was born February 18, 1943 in Diboll, Texas to the late Milver J. (Glass) and Peyton W. Scarborough, and died Thursday, September 14, 2017 in Lufkin.
Mrs. LaMar had resided in the Lufkin area all of her life. She graduated with the Class of 1961 from Diboll High School. She was a homemaker and loved children. Mrs. LaMar enjoyed sewing, embroidery, reading, traveling, and watching her family dance around the porch. She was a member of Bethel Assembly of God.
Mrs. LaMar was a devoted church member, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt. To all who knew her she was a non-condemning soul, a giver to a fault, and most of all an encourager to everyone. She filled her days with the laughter of little ones, opening up her home and caring for and loving each of them like her very own. There were numerous children who came into her life and they all touched her deeply, but one especially was Jessica Casey Reynolds. Paytria was so proud of the woman Jessica grew up to be and the life she now leads. She had the privilege of keeping all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren while their parents were off at work. Her door was never closed or her wallet never empty to help those in need.
Survivors include her daughter, Gwen LaMar Grumbles and husband Jarrad of Lufkin; son, Robert Keith LaMar and wife Susan of Diboll; son-in-law, Dusty Stringer of Huntington; grandchildren, Cassie Janette Guerrero and husband John, Carrie Lanette Hill, Randi Shay “Bo” Stringer and Cody Pierce, Robert Dustin LaMar and wife Kristen, Ashton Rose LaMar and Mike Wells; great-grandchildren, Cash and Paisley Pierce, Malee and Bailey Scott, Adrienne Hill, Luke and Ava Guerrero, Jaylee LaMar, and Chloe Chevelle Wells; sisters, Linda Mills and husband Charles of Lufkin, Thelma Houston of Diboll, and Mary Thompson and husband William of Lufkin; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert Lodeal LaMar “Teddy Bear”; brother, Larry Coy Scarborough; and grandsons-in-law, Will Scott and Hardy Hill.
Pallbearers will be Steve Mills, John Houston, Cody Pierce, John Guerrero, Dustin LaMar, Dusty Stringer, and Cash Pierce.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon prior to the service at the church.
