Memorial services with military honors for Michael B. Bonner, 69, of Lufkin will be held Friday, September 15, 2017 at 4:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Lufkin with Margie Phillips officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Carroway Funeral Home. A celebration of his 70th birthday will be held Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at 5:30 p.m. at Lanana Hall, 108 N. Lanana Street, Nacogdoches, Texas. Michael B. Bonner passed from this life Thursday, September 7, 2017. He was born September 13, 1947 in Memphis, Tennessee to James Dunbar Bonner and Martha Elizabeth (Nail) Bonner. Michael was raised in South Carolina and California. He served in the U.S. Army as a Light Weapons Infantryman from 1964 to 1984, and was stationed in Vietnam, Thailand, Central America, Korea, Germany, and the United States. His awards included the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, the Army Commendation Medal (5 oak clusters), and the Meritorious Service Medal (5 oak leaf clusters). Michael graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University in 1986 and from Baylor School of Law in 1989. He served Texas and Nacogdoches as an Assistant Attorney General, Assistant District Attorney, and Assistant County Attorney. Michael fought all his life for liberty and justice, and strove to conduct himself as a Christian gentleman. He is survived by his wife, Corliss Ellen Bonner, son and daughter-in-law, Nathan and Crystal Bonner, and grandchildren, Alexandria and Aiden Bonner, all of Lufkin.
