Carl E. Russell

Funeral services for Carl E. Russell, 81, of Huntington, will be held Sunday, September 10, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Lufkin with Dr. Darryl Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Berry Cemetery in Lufkin.

Mr. Russell was born February 21, 1936 in Lufkin, Texas, the son of the late Tessie Mae (Barley) and John Floyd Russell. He died Wednesday, August 30, 2017 in a Lufkin hospital.

Mr. Russell was known by all of his family as “Uncle PeeWee.” He formerly resided in Pasadena, Texas, for 20 years, where he worked for Ideal Cement. Upon returning to the Lufkin/Huntington area, he worked 12 years for Lufkin Industries. Mr. Russell served his country in the United States Air Force for 4 years. He had been a Mason for 50 years and was a member of Homer Masonic Lodge #254, A.F. & A.M. He was also a member of Huntington First Baptist Church. He had a quick sense of humor, was always ready with a joke, and was dearly loved by all. Mr. Russell enjoyed fishing and hunting.

Survivors include his brothers and sisters-in-law, Roger and Donna Russell of Lufkin, Gene and Patty Russell of Lumberton; uncle and aunt, Truitt and Betty Barley of Huntington; sister-in-law, Carol Russell Berkebile of Livingston; as well as a number of cousins, nieces and nephews, other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, John Wayne Russell.

Pallbearers will be Doyle Thornton, Ernie Battle, Darrell Bryan, James Lovett, Bobby Hawkins, and Ikie Durham.

The family will receive friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Saturday evening at Carroway Funeral Home.
