Jo Nellwyn Clifton

A reception to celebrate the life of Jo Nellwyn Clifton, 77, of Zavalla will be held Saturday, August 26, 2017 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Zavalla City Hall. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Carroway Funeral Home.

Mrs. Clifton was born January 18, 1940 in Basile, Louisiana to the late Mable (LaFleur) and Clarence Edward Davis, and died Monday, July 17, 2017 in a local hospital.

A resident of Lake Charles, Louisiana most of her life, Mrs. Clifton had resided in Zavalla for one year. She worked for the Lake Charles Police Department for 42 years. Mrs. Clifton enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading, and British movies, as well as spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was known as MeMe and GiGi, and was known for serving peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and milk. She took tender care of her pets. Mrs. Clifton was of the Catholic faith.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Jo Lee and Gregory Day of Zavalla; son and daughter-in-law, Merrel and Jackie Clifton of Zavalla; granddaughters, Arlie Clifton an Mollie Clifton, both of Zavalla; grandsons, Merrel “Doug” Clifton of Lufkin, Jessie Clifton and wife Stephanie, and Michael Day, all of Zavalla; great-grandsons, Slayder Leviness, Seth Crawford, Stetson Williams, Easton Clifton, and Landon Clifton, all of Zavalla; great-granddaughter, Georgia Clifton of Zavalla; sister and brother-in-law, Jackie Goodfellow and David Friend of Austin; brother and sister-in-law, James and Estella Davis of Houston; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives; and her pets, Zeus the mini Schnauzer, Arnold the cat, and Big Bird, her parrot for 40 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Merrell Clifton; brother, Bob Davis; and her cat, Jake.
