Funeral services for Bobby Eugene Smith, Sr., 80, of Lufkin will be held Monday, July 24, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Martin Baker officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in the Keltys Cemetery. Mr. Smith was born December 11, 1936 in Schwab City, Texas to the late Johnnie Thelma (Barnes) and Jerry Smith, and died Friday, July 21, 2017 in a local hospital. Mr. Smith had resided in Lufkin all of his life. He served his country in the United States Air Force for four years. Prior to his retirement, Mr. Smith was an Engineer on supply boats. He loved bass fishing and was a member of the No Name Bass Club of Lufkin. He was also a charter member of the Lufkin Bass Club and was inducted into the Texas State Bass Tournament Hall of Fame for participating in the sport for over forty years. Mr. Smith was the Assistant ScoutMaster of Boy Scouts in Lufkin for several years. He enjoyed hunting, especially duck hunting, and was a huge Texas Rangers fan. Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Shirley Smith of Lufkin; son, Bobby Smith, Jr. and wife Charla of Jackson, Tennessee; daughter, Tanua Clark and husband Dwayne of Chicago, Illinois; sons, James Mills and wife Tisha of Hudson and Tom Mills and wife Kathy of Temple; grandchildren, Joshua Smith and wife Annetta, Jonathan Smith and wife Amy, Stephen Smith and wife Jennifer, Andrew Clark, Victor Mills, Kelsey Milberger, and Hanna Milberger; great-grandchild, Lila Smith; sisters, Sue Smith of Pollok and Charlene Justice and husband Roger of Lufkin; brothers, Jerry Smith of Buna and Keith Smith of Pollok; sisters-in-law, Polly Willis and husband Richard and Helen Chaney and husband John, all of Lufkin; brother-in-law Ben Sharp and wife Cheryl of Warren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Laura Mettlen. Pallbearers will be Don Richardson, JB Sharp, Jim Masters, Ricky Blake, Roger Justus, and Walter Keen. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the No Name Bass Club of Lufkin. The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.
