Funeral services for Edward Taft Barringer, Jr., 81, of Lufkin, will be held Saturday, July 8, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Steve Cowart officiating. Interment will follow in Largent Cemetery.
Mr. Barringer was born September 21, 1935 in Leggett, Texas, the son of the late Bernice (Barnes) and Edward Taft Barringer, Sr. He died Wednesday, July 5, 2017 at his residence in Lufkin.
Mr. Barringer had worked for L. Richardson & Sons Construction Company for 30 years doing carpentry work. He was the longest serving (25 years) and oldest member of the Woodlawn Water Board. He loved to hunt, and enjoyed riding his motorcycle with his wife, Joycie, in their younger years, traveling everywhere together. Family was most important to him; they came before he did. And, God and his church, Trinity Baptist Church, were central in his life. Mr. Barringer had lived in Lufkin all his life.
Survivors include his wife, Joycie Barringer of Lufkin; son, Thomas Barringer of Lufkin; son and daughter-in-law, Herbert Taft and Gail Barringer of Lufkin; grandchildren, Larry Barringer, Lorrie Wild, Herbert Taft Barringer, Jr., and Richard Barringer, all of Lufkin; fourteen great grandchildren; brother, Danny Barringer of Lufkin; sisters, Sarah Morris of Diboll, Jessie Martines of Lufkin, Virginia Morrison and husband Jim of Etoile, and Dixie Horton of Diboll; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, TJ and Carol Johnson, John and Judy Johnson, Martha Dell Cole, Marie and Bob Hughes, Nellie Whisnant, and Jerry and Steven Rector; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, George Barringer, Johnny Barringer, and Billy Barringer; parents-in-law, Herbert and Hester Johnson; and brothers-in-law, James Johnson and Herbert Lee Johnson.
Pallbearers will be James Ray Griffith, Richard Barringer, Taft Barringer, Marvin Barringer, Jeff Fuller, and Robert Cole.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Jolly Senior Class of Trinity Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
