Mass of Christian Burial for Joe Albert Capps, 77, of Diboll, will be celebrated Wednesday, July 5, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church with Fr. Gavin Vaverek officiating. Interment will follow in the Ryan Chapel Cemetery. Rosary will be recited at 8:00 a.m. Wednesday morning at the Church.
Mr. Capps was born January 31, 1940 in Huntington, Texas, the son of Ruby (Allsbrooks) and Claudie Lee Capps. He died Sunday, July 2, 2017 at PineCrest.
Joe had resided in Angelina County all his life. He was retired from Temple-Inland, where he worked as a millwright in the Fiberboard Plant in Diboll. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church.
Joe enjoyed hunting, especially coon hunting, and fishing. He was known as “Papa Joe” at the Fiberboard Plant. He served his country in the United States Army for six years, and was stationed in Wildflecken, Germany, where he met his wife of 52 years. Joe loved his family, and was “Grandpaw Joe” to his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Christa Klara Capps of Diboll; his children, Kay Stefan Capps and fiancée Carolyn Cheavens of Bryan, Angela Regina Foote and husband Earl of Houston, and Carmen Jean Nerren and husband Lamar of Lufkin; granddaughter, Nikki Norton and husband Josh of College Station; grandson, Jonathan Capps and wife Katharine of College Station; granddaughter, Helena Nerren of Lufkin; five great grandchildren, Ella Norton, Kyle Norton, Laney Norton, Grayson Capps, and Liam Capps; brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Billie Jean Capps, Kenneth and Ginger Capps, all of Diboll, Lawrence and Sunshine Capps of Athens, and G.W. and Dianne Capps of Clarkston, Washington; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Royce Capps and Bennie Capps.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to St. Patrick Catholic Church, 2118 Lowry St., Lufkin, Texas 75901, or to the PineCrest Rehab, 1302 Tom Temple Dr., Lufkin, Texas 75904.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
