A Memorial Service will be held on July 1, 2017 in Dallas, Texas, to celebrate the lives of Casey Gene Morgan, his sister, Claudia, and his parents, Bill, and Lettie Morgan. The service is informal and will take place at 3:30 p.m. at The Big Thicket House at White Rock Lake, 430 East Lawther Drive.
Casey was born on October 12, 1957 in Dallas, Texas. He was last seen on August 8, 1997. He was going to take a drive, probably to his river property. He loved being in the woods and at the river. Casey was the victim of an unsolved crime and has been declared legally dead. His case has been featured recently on two podcasts, Vanished and Within the Twisted Reach. A Facebook page has also been established under the name of Missing Casey Morgan.
With great effort, Casey was able to overcome a severe problem with dyslexia and graduated from high school in Dallas, Texas. The whole family was so proud of him when he joined the Navy. Due to medical problems, he received a medical discharge much to his disappointment. He then worked for the Transportation Department, which involved working on Interstate 20 near Marshall, Texas. In 1979, he and three co-workers were hit by a drunk driver. He was one of two survivors. His legs were crushed and splintered requiring numerous surgeries and hospitalization for several years. Against the advice of his doctors, he refused to apply for disability. He was determined to work again, which he accomplished. Following a lengthy recovery, he became a long-haul truck driver. He then lived in Marshall, Texas, caring for his grandmother and working at The Waffle House. Adversity never broke his spirit or his sense of humor. He loved to pick at his guitar from time to time and wrote humorous songs about his experiences. Casey was a loyal friend and family member. He was a big man with a big heart, generous with his time and compassion. Casey will always be loved and remembered for his incredible perseverance, intelligence, and his great sense of humor.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Effie and Howeth Morgan of Marshall, Texas and Albert and Hattie Hazel of Shreveport, Louisiana; his uncle, Marion Morgan of Marshall, Texas; his brother-in-law, Mark Sutton of Lufkin passed after his disappearance, as did his uncle, Jack Hazel and his wife Eloise of Marshall, Texas.
He is survived by his sister, Juanda Morgan of Lufkin, Texas; brother, Kelly Morgan and his wife Marla of Houston, Texas; nieces, Lacey Ferguson of Dallas, Krista Mendez of Lufkin, and Meghan Sutton of Lufkin, and their children; his uncle, Glenn Morgan and his wife Dot of Signal Mountain, Tennessee and their daughters, Glenda, Joy, and Susan; and cousins, Ronnie and David Hazel of Longview, Texas.
Charitable donations may be made in his memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 Saint Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105.
