Funeral services for Wanda Self, 84, of Lufkin will be held Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Wayne Bickley officiating. Graveside committal services will follow at 3:00 p.m. in the Good Hope Cemetery in Anacoco, Louisiana. Wanda was born February 11, 1933 in Rusk, Texas to the late Ester (Pyle) and Deward Scott, and went to be with the Lord Thursday, June 8, 2017 in Lufkin. Wanda was a member of the Soda Baptist Church in Livingston, Texas. During her long life, she faithfully served the Lord teaching Sunday School for many ages from early primaries through the adult women’s classes. She was also a member of the Eastern Star in Houston, Texas. Wanda enjoyed sewing and worked for a local interior decorator making window treatments in the Houston area for many years. She also loved to sew and create clothing for her grandchildren as well as others. Wanda was a wonderful homemaker and loved decorating and making crafts. Wanda also had a love for gardening and preserving vegetables for her family and friends. Wanda was one of the best cooks and hostesses in the country. She loved seeing people eat and enjoying her cooking. She was a devoted wife of 62 years to Daniel Jefferson Self of Anacoco, Louisiana and a loving mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. Wanda will be deeply missed by all of us. Survivors include her son, Mike Self and wife Susie of Fredericksburg; daughters, Diane Self Bullock and husband Wade of Montgomery and Kathy Self Conn and husband Doug of Lufkin; grandchildren, Michael Self and wife Carey of Leander, Mark Self and wife Amanda of Alvarado, Ashley Self Reed and husband Lonnie of Georgetown, Matthew Self and wife Kacie of Fredericksburg, Emily Bullock Mengershausen and husband Greg of Fairbanks, Alaska, Dean Bullock and wife Courtney of Richmond, Lauren Bullock of San Antonio, Brandon Conn and wife Jessica of Ft. Worth, and Jennifer Conn Reynolds and husband Kalon of Henderson; great-grandchildren, Lainey Self, Callen Self, Chansitie Seek, Lance Self, Molly Self, Mason Self, Miles Self, Gideon Mengershausen, Rory Mengershausen, Madison Conn, Harrison Conn, Brooklyn Conn, 2 foster great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild, Paisley Seek; sisters, Norma Sue Miller and husband Gene of Pickton and Leona Mae Hetmaniak and husband Charles of Cypress; brother-in-law, James E. Green and wife Sharon Howell Green of Houston; sister-in-law, Alice Scott of Madisonville; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 62 years, Daniel Jefferson Self; brothers, Gerald R. Scott and James E. Scott, sister, Lois Levell Scott Green; and brother-in-law, David King. Pallbearers will be Michael Self, Mark Self, Matthew Self, Brandon Conn, Dean Bullock, and Kalon Reynolds. Honorary pallbearers will be Lonnie Reed and Greg Mengershausen. In Lieu of flowers, a financial contribution can be made to the Soda Baptist Church Youth Department, in Memory of Dan & Wanda Self to provide scholarships for youth to attend summer youth camp.
