Graveside services for Martha L. Fitzgerald, 91, of Lufkin will be held Saturday, June 10, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in the Lindale Cemetery in Smith County.
The family will receive friends and loved ones from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at Carroway Funeral Home in Lufkin.
Martha was born to Cloet and Essie (Wells) Hammond on June 11, 1925. She was a graduate of Van High School and Tyler Junior College. Her first marriage was to James V. Mallory of Lindale, Texas; and they had a son, James A. Mallory, II.
She then married Walter M. Fitzgerald, Jr. They were married 43 years before his death in 2004. He was employed and retired from Temple Inland. Martha was employed at Medical Center Hospital in Tyler and Dr. Robert E. Lauch’s office in Tyler. After moving to Lufkin, she was employed as a nurse at Woodland Heights Medical Center and retired after 21 years of employment.
Survivors are cousins, Bob Thompson, Sam Wells, Suzanne Walker, and Benji Guinn; high school friend, Bobbye Moore of Tyler; and dear friend, Cathy Busbee and family of Lufkin.
Martha was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Matthew Fitzgerald, and her son, James Arthur Mallory, II.
