Melvin Wallace Garlington

Funeral services for Melvin Wallace Garlington, 95, of Huntington will be held Thursday, June 8, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Huntington with Brother Larry Innerarity and Jerry Hamilton officiating. Graveside services with military honors will follow in the Jonesville Cemetery.

Melvin W. Garlington went peacefully to sleep on Monday, June 5, 2017 and woke up in the presence of his Lord and Savior. He was born January 28, 1922 in Bronson, Texas to the late William and Easter (De Phillips) Garlington. He married Ethel Agnes Truss on February 21, 1959. Mr. Garlington was retired from Continental Can. Mr. Garlington was a member of Sulphur Springs Baptist Church in Zavalla.

Mr. Garlington was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He served his country in the United States Army Aviation from 1942-1946. He enjoyed fishing, camping, gardening and playing “42” dominos, spending time with his family, and watching the “Astros” play ball.

He is survived by his sons, Terry Hunt and wife Starla of Tatum, Dannie Hunt and wife Maureen of Timpson; sisters, Clarine Havard and Viola Nickerson, both of Lufkin, Frances Lahrmann of Grapeland; sister and brother-in-law, Onetta and Vernice Roebuck of Huntington; and a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Agnes Garlington; son, Randall Garlington; brothers, Harry Garlington, Norman Garlington, and R.C. Garlington; and sister, Bertha Casper.

Pallbearers will be Larry Garlington, Justin Hamilton, Ryan Hamilton, Andrew Day, Tanner Montes, Logan Hunt, Randall Garlington, Jr., and Ricky Garlington.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Pat Montes, Timothy Hamilton, Brandon Hamilton, Sherman Casper and Curtis Parker.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Thursday afternoon at the funeral home.

In life, he was loved by many, and in death, he will be missed by many.

The family would like to extend their thanks to the nurses and staff of Huntington Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center for their care and love provided to our loved one.
