Mildred Ethel Navarro of Hudson, Texas died peacefully in her home Saturday, May 27, 2017 at age 88 after a lengthy illness. Born December 10,1928 in Beaver Dam Township, North Carolina, to the late Florence (Willoughby) and Curley Packer, she was a resident of Houston for more than 60 years. Mrs. Navarro and her husband P.G. Navarro relocated to Hudson eight years ago and celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary last June.
A homemaker and mother of six, she was dearly loved by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her happiest moments were at family gatherings where she was able to spend precious time with each member. She was an avid animal lover and owned many special pets throughout her lifetime. Her favorite pastimes were playing cards with friends and family and watching football, baseball and other sporting events. She was also a member of the Catholic faith and a devout believer in St. Jude.
She is survived by her husband, P.G. Navarro of Hudson; daughters, Regina Moody and husband Robert of Austin and Suzanne McCullough of Lufkin; sons, Steve Navarro of Richmond, Ken Navarro and wife Carol of Los Lunas, New Mexico, Chris Navarro and wife Lonette of Lufkin, and Mark Navarro and wife Michele of Jamaica Beach; grandchildren, Laura Moody, Jennifer Lieb, Maura Navarro, Rachel Jeffries, Elizabeth Juarez, Christopher Navarro and Brooks Smith; numerous great-grandchildren; Elsie (Bessie) Smiley, her only surviving sibling, and husband Charlie of North Carolina; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones for visitation from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., Saturday, June 3 at Carroway Funeral Home.
Mildred will be laid to rest on June 5 at the Houston National Cemetery with her sons and grandsons serving as pallbearers.
