Johnnie "Nanny" Pitts

Funeral services for Johnnie “Nanny” Pitts, 79, of Lufkin, will be held Monday, May 22, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Mark Livingston and Pastor Jerry Browning officiating. Interment will follow in Old Union Cemetery. Mrs. Pitts was born October 18, 1937 in Trinity County, Texas, the daughter of the late John Barkley Kendrick and Tina Thelma Martin Kendrick. She died Thursday, May 18, 2017 at her residence. Mrs. Pitts lived her lifetime in Trinity and Angelina counties. Johnnie was a homemaker and a beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt. She enjoyed cooking and taking care of her family. She attended Keltys First Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Billy Eugene Pitts; her four children: son and daughter-in-law, Darrell and Debra Pitts, son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Kristi Pitts, son, Jason Pitts, and daughter, Beverly Pitts; grandsons, Rusty, Dusty, Brian, Brent, Darrell, Jr., and Trey; granddaughters, Misty, Tiffany, Terra, Shae, Bridgett, Jennifer, and Gail; twenty-seven great grandchildren; brothers, Horace Kendrick, Charles Kendrick and wife Leona; sisters, Frances Ripley and husband Kenneth, and Carolyn White; as well as a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members. Johnnie was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Estelle Thompson; three brothers "J.C." Kendrick, Donald Kendrick, "Junior" Kendrick; and infant grandson. Pallbearers will be Rusty Pitts, Dusty Pitts, Brian Pitts, Brent Pitts, Trey Burton, and Charles Kendrick. Honorary pallbearers are Mrs. Pitts’ great grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice in the Pines, 1504 West Frank Ave., Lufkin, Texas 75904, or to Meals on Wheels, in care of the Angelina County Senior Citizens Center, 2801 Valley Ave., Lufkin, Texas 75901. The family would like to thank Hospice in the Pines, with a special thanks going to Lia, Matt, Jim, and Katie. The family will receive friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.
