Judy Berry

Funeral services for Judy Berry, 70, of Lufkin will be held Saturday, May 13, 2017 at 11:30 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Ron Meadows officiating. Interment will follow in the Berry Cemetery. Mrs. Berry was born March 26, 1947 in La Grange, Texas to Eugenia (Pospisil) and Johnny Kallus, and died Tuesday, May 9, 2017 in Houston. Mrs. Berry had resided in Lufkin for most of her life. She retired from teaching school after 33 years. She taught English and History in high school and junior high in Lufkin ISD and Huntington ISD. She was the Treasurer of Delta Kappa Gamma. She was an avid gardener, as she could often be found in her flower beds tending to her “other babies”, her roses and azaleas. After retirement, she enjoyed traveling around the world and did a lot of research on her family’s history and genealogy. But most important to her was her family. She was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and caregiver, and she cherished her husband, Tom. Survivors include her sons, Chad Berry and wife Kristin of Austin, and Chris Berry of Lufkin; daughter, Candi Edwards and husband Don of Lufkin; grandchildren, Heather Gonzalez, Angel Driver and friend Nick Austin, Dustin Edwards and friend Caitlin Spivey, and Jasmine Edwards, all of Lufkin, and Elizabeth Berry and Thomas John Berry, both of Austin; great-grandchildren, Gabriel Gonzales, Jaiden Gonzales, Preston Carroll, and Emberlyn Edwards; father, Johnny Kallus of Flatonia; brothers, Ronnie Kallus and wife Carolyn, and Dennis Kallus and wife Diane, all of Flatonia; brother-in-law, Bill Berry and wife Evelyn of Lufkin; sister-in-law, Julie McComber and husband Ted of Lufkin; nephews, Ray Berry, Ryan Berry, Court Perry, and Glenn Perry, all of Lufkin, Ron Kallus of Cypress, and Russell Kallus of Fayetteville; nieces, Angela Alaniz of College Station, Dawn Medrano of Columbus, Deidre Kallus of Victoria, and Melissa Perry of Lufkin; and numerous other relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Thomas D. Berry, on March 16, 2017; mother, Eugenia Kallus; and brother-in-law, Robert Berry. Pallbearers will be Ray Berry, Glenn Perry, Ryan Berry, Court Perry, Ron Kallus, and Russell Kallus. Honorary pallbearers will be Tom Berry and Larry Perry. Memorial contributions may be made to the Berry Cemetery Fund, 1104 Skeetwood St., Lufkin, Texas 75904. The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
