Funeral services for Bettie Jo Pirtle Carpenter, 82, of Lufkin will be held Friday, April 21, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Harmony Hill Baptist Church with Dr. John W. Greene and Pastor Stacy Perkins officiating. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. in the McKnight Cemetery in Cushing.
Mrs. Carpenter was born August 19, 1934 in Cushing, Texas to the late Eunice Ada (Ivy) and Finley Lee Pirtle, and died Tuesday, April 18, 2017 in a local hospice facility.
Mrs. Carpenter had resided in Lufkin for the past 47 years and previously lived in Nacogdoches for six years. She was a secretary at Medical Discount Pharmacy for 22 years. She was meticulous about her housekeeping and lawn care. She was a loving mother and was a caring person. Her husband, Lyle, knew her as a godly helpmate. Mrs. Carpenter was a Greeter and the first lady Usher at Harmony Hill Baptist Church, and she was also in charge of “The Prayer Warriors”.
Survivors include her husband of 60 1/2 years, Lyle Carpenter of Lufkin; son, Tim Carpenter and wife Judy of Nacogdoches; daughter, Cindy Stewart and husband Scott of Lufkin; grandchildren, Ashley Black and husband Darren, Whitney Trevathan and fiance’ Clayden Broyles, all of Lufkin, and Jennifer Carpenter of Nacogdoches; great-grandchildren, Timo Carpenter and Jaden Carpenter of Nacogdoches, and Aubrey Black and Landon Broyles of Lufkin; sisters, Louise Gresham of Cushing, Jeri Wallace of Nat, and Barbara Skinner of Houston; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Polly Langford and Sybil Hearnsberger.
Pallbearers will be Scott Stewart, Darren Black, Clayden Broyles, Timo Carpenter, Rusty Skinner, and Tony Wallace.
Honorary pallbearers will be Ronnie Gresham, Joe Terry Langford, Cheryl Loggins, Terry Denton, Curtis Fancher, Dale Havard, and the Boles Life Group of Harmony Hill Baptist Church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Angelina County, P.O. Box 472, Lufkin, Texas 75902; Harmony Hill Baptist Church, 2708 S. Chestnut Street, Lufkin, Texas 75901; or Hospice in the Pines,1504 W. Frank Avenue, Lufkin, Texas 75904.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Friday morning prior to the services.
