Funeral services for WJ “Tater” Morehead, 86, of Huntington will be held Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in the Cornerstone United Pentecostal Church, 1407 Ellis Avenue, Lufkin, Texas with Pastor John Boone and Brother Michael West officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in the Sims (Rocky Hill) Cemetery.
Mr. Morehead was born October 2, 1930 in Angelina County, Texas to the late Lena Beatrice (Anderson) and Archie Morehead, and passed peacefully Saturday, April 1, 2017 at his residence.
Mr. Morehead had resided in Angelina County for most of his life. He served his country in the United States Navy and the United States Air Force, serving in both the Vietnam War and the Korean Conflict. He received two medals for Good Conduct and two medals for Longevity of Service. He was known as Huntington’s most loved appliance repairman, and when he was not working he was an avid fisherman. Mr. Morehead was also a Greeter and a Trustee at his church, Cornerstone United Pentecostal Church.
PawPaw is survived by his wife of 61 years, Hazel Morehead of Huntington; daughters, Tina Brockett and husband Robert of Huntington, Lesia Golden and husband Lynn of Lufkin, and Carrie Morehead and James Coody of Huntington; grandchildren, Leslie Davis and husband Jon, Monica Hartman and husband Rusty, Bryan Golden and wife Caressa, Rebekah Frankens and husband Philip, Heather Johnson and husband Paul, Calen Morehead and wife Kaytlyn, and Halee Morehead and Brandon Elliott; fifteen great-grandchildren; brothers, Henry Morehead and wife Janet, and LaMorris Morehead and wife Maxine; sister, Faye Pollino and husband John; sisters-in-law, Jackie Morehead, Dell Morehead, Katherine Bentley, Genese Vestal, and Yvonne Vestal; brother-in-law, Don Vestal and wife, Linda; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his son, Christopher “Pete” Morehead; his parents; four brothers and two sisters.
Pallbearers will be Jon Davis, Bryan Golden, Philip Frankens, Paul Johnson, Blane Wilson, Calen Morehead, Bryce Golden, and Scott Morehead.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday evening at Cornerstone United Pentecostal Church.
