Funeral services for Thomas Dewey Berry, 70, of Lufkin, will be held Monday, March 20, 2017 at 12:30 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Ron Meadows officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in the Berry Cemetery. Mr. Berry was born May 6, 1946 in Lufkin, Texas, the son of the late Nelwyn (Johnson) and Glenn Wood Berry. He died Thursday, March 16, 2017 in a Houston hospital. Mr. Berry has lived in Lufkin all his life. He graduated from Lufkin High School where he was a member of the Panther Varsity Baseball Team and member (2nd baseman) of the 1963 team who went on to win the State Championship. While attending Blinn Junior College, he also played 2nd base for the Buccaneer Baseball Team. Later, Mr. Berry loved coaching Dixie Major baseball teams, one of which became State Champions in 1978. He served his country as a United States Army Ranger in Vietnam, receiving an honorable discharge with the rank of Staff Sergeant. Mr. Berry worked in the Maintenance Department at the Champion International Paper Mill for more than 33 years. After retirement, he enjoyed visiting with his friends in the monthly Paper Mill Coffee Club. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, four-wheeling in Colorado with his buddies, and driving his tractor. Most of all, he loved being with his family, especially his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Judy Berry of Lufkin; sons and daughter-in-law, Chad and Kristin Berry of Austin, Chris Berry of Naples, Italy; daughter and son-in-law, Candi and Don Edwards of Lufkin; grandchildren, Heather Gonzalez, Angel Driver and Friend Nick Austin, Dustin Edwards and friend Caitlin Spivey, Jasmine Edwards, all of Lufkin, and Elizabeth Berry and Thomas John Berry, both of Austin; great grandchildren, Gabriel and Jaiden Gonzales, Preston Carroll, and Emberlyn Edwards; brother, Bill Berry and wife Evelyn of Lufkin; sister, Julie McComber and husband Ted of Lufkin; father-in-law, Johnny Kallus of Flatonia; brothers-in-law, Ronnie Kallus and wife Carolyn, Dennis Kallus and wife Diane, all of Flatonia; nephews, Ray Berry, Ryan Berry, Court Perry, and Glenn Perry, all of Lufkin, Ron Kallus of Cypress, Russell Kallus of Fayetteville; nieces, Angela Alaniz of College Station, Dawn Medrano of Columbus, Deidre Kallus of Victoria, and Melissa Perry of Lufkin. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert Berry; and mother-in-law, Eugenia Kallus. Pallbearers will be Ray Berry, Glenn Perry, Ryan Berry, Tom Berry, Court Perry, and Larry Perry. Memorial contributions may be made to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation, 383 Main Avenue, 5th Floor, Norwalk, CT 06851; Disabled American Veterans, Lufkin Chapter #84, P.O.
